Interests and Projects

German

I have been learning German for a number of years and am hoping to move to Germany to improve my language skills. I am very keen to use my spare time in the country to accelerate my learning - and I feel that learning a language myself gives me a greater understanding of the needs of those I may be teaching.

I am very interested in the English language and how it is taught. I undertook my CertTESOL course with enthusiasm, enjoying both the practical and the theoretical aspects of the study. I was a keen learner who saw the course as an opportunity to study something I enjoyed, as well as gaining a qualification. I was very happy when on completion of my training at the Liverpool School of English I was offered the opportunity to teach at the school on a part-time basis. I now teach there regularly and enjoy the work very much.

English

I am an enthusiastic musician, organising music and playing gigs in my hometown and producing stage shows, videos and CDs, including promotional material. This has also given me experience in a great deal of essential ‘behind-the-scenes’ skills. Between 2011 and 2012 I also worked compering a monthly event - researching and introducing all of the bands that played.

Reading & Writing

Alongside my university studies, I enjoy creative writing and reading literature as a hobby. I am particularly interested in the fantasy realism genre and the short story as a medium. I feel I have a natural writing ability; writing is for me a necessary and creative - even cathartic -  past-time and I am interested in seeing how it changes and develops over time.

I am also involved in a number of  projects - creating, designing and producing albums for my band; I introduce bands at music shows; I have featured in a student film; I created the theme tune to film-analysis podcasts 'Bat Minute' and contributed to 'Die Hard Minute' and every year I help organise and perform a new show at the Lancaster Music Festival (starting in 2011). 2017's festival event was a piece of musical puppet theatre that went on to tour in Liverpool and the Eden Music Festival in Scotland - this involved a combination of theatre, live music, projections and laser-cut shadow puppets and merchandise.
